Hello Class and Mr Weatherby, My Name Is Rachel Downes and I am here to talk to and inform you about the Burrowes giant glass frog. This extraordinary creature has transparent skin that allows you to see its insides clearly. I know that if I had that sort of skin, I would be staying as much out of the sun as possible, because, I would want my insides cooked, well it seems this cute little frog sees my point, because that’s just what it does! Stays out of the sun that is… It lives in the Streams, Mountainous, Humid and Tropical forests of Central and South America. The mother frog lays her eggs on leaves of trees overhanging mountain rivers and creek. This provides her eggs some protection from predators(1). When the eggs hatch, the tadpoles will fall into the water below, and start the cycle of their life. Naturally, the eggs will hatch and the tadpoles will fall into the fast moving creeks and streams. At this point, life will start all over again.[1] Their life cycle starts as an egg they soon develop into an embryo. They then continue their journey into a tadpole with external gills later developing internal gills. They later grow the operculum then the hind legs develop. The forelimbs come next, then the frog becomes a froglet, finally developing into an adult frog. Its aquatic habitat is threatened by pollution and the introduction of predatory fish species. Human settlements and activities on forest boundaries are also putting this frog at risk. When a male glass frog attracts a female with his call and she approaches him, he climbs onto her back. This piggyback position is called amplexus (am-PLEK-sus). The male wraps his front legs around her and hangs on just behind her front legs. He remains there until she lays her eggs. As she does, he releases a fluid containing microscopic cells, called sperm that trigger the eggs to start growing. The Burrowes’ Giant Glass Frog has a scientific name of Centrolene Ballux. I…
