The purpose of these two experiments was to determine which common antimicrobials would inhibit the growth of bacteria more effectively. The investigation examined these two variables by inoculating agar plates with the bacteria Rhodospirllium rubrum. The first variable was the different types of natural agent (lemon juice, eulacaputs oil, vingear and distilled water) that would inhibit the growth of Rhodospirllium rubrum and the second variable was at which concentration levels the antibacterial inhibited the growth of Rhodospirllium rubrum. It was predicted that hypothesis the higher the concentration levels in natural agents in experiment one the greater it will inhibit the growth of the bacteria in experiment two. In the first experiment, research states that vinegar was a common anitmicrobal that was the greatest effect on Rhodospirllium rubrum as it kills 99% of our bacteria. “ Stated on Mondofacto dictionary” (12 Dec 1998) ,Rhodospirillium Rubrum is Vibrio- to spiral-shaped phototrophic bacteria found in stagnant water and mud (12 Dec 1998) R.rubum is a gram-negative, mesophilicproteobacteria. It has an opitmal growth temperature of 25-30 degrees celius. It has multi layered outer envelopes, which contains mostly unstaturated, but sometimes saturated fats are found in its cell wall. R.Rubrum has the presence of oxygen; it can undergo alcholic fermentation or aerobic respiration. It also is capable of photosynesis and contains caroteinoid and bacteriochlorophyll in its chromatophore particles. These molecules help to absorb light and convert it to engery and also give it a distinct purple-red colour under anaerobic conditions and where as R.rubrum under aerobic conditions leaves a colourless distinct.
