Define the problem?
Obesity among children in the United States has risen steadily since the 1970s (Malnati 2018). Kids require nutritious meals to sustain a healthy digestion process and sufficient energy for the remainder of the school day.
State your public health issue/concern?
The prevalence of overweight and obese youngsters has risen steadily since the 1970s. Poor nutrition is a problem for low-income students, and terrible school lunches reinforce lousy eating habits. Better meals can drastically lower overweight rates in schools, resulting in healthy students (Nestle, 2020). Even though children are encouraged to consume nutritious foods, they infrequently do so because school lunches offer greater appealing, greasy meal options.
Who is experiencing the problem?
Children who are habituated to eating the right foods develop a predisposition for them, meaning that as individuals, they would have had no trouble eating healthily. Eating factors are tough to crack since they are developed early in life (Troutman, 2011). In the United States, 15.8 million free care is provided to children living in or near poverty each year (Lee & Yoon, 2020). This suggests that low-income pupils receiving a decreased or free lunch aren’t getting enough nutrition.
