Educational requirements Nursing is a comprehensive course that has captured the attention of many. Several requirements enable one to be a nurse. The educational requirements are top of the list of requirements. To be a nurse at the state level, they require an Associate Degree in Nursing. The degree takes two to three years to complete. With this degree, an individual is guaranteed to have skills and knowledge for nursing practice at the state level (Nurminen et al.,2014). After completing the course
work, the individual is supposed to take the National Licensure Examination, which will be determined whether one qualifies to be a nurse. At the national level, it is expected that the nurse has more skills and knowledge. It can be achieved through taking part in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This program is more advanced than Associate Degree in Nursing, which is not necessarily necessary to take the BSN programs (Nurminen et al.,2014). The individuals with this degree are more
knowledgeable and have taken more clinical practice, which gives them a higher position in a hospital since they are assigned more roles. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required to specialize in a field of their choice. Certificates required for one to be a
nurse According to Kim,2015, nursing certifications are very important as they ensure that the individual can perform nursing roles.
The certifications approve of the qualifications of the nurse. Nurses require different certificates depending on their level of education and their nursing specialty. The initial certificate required is a license certificate. To operate at the state and national
levels, one must be a registered nurse. The licenses are administered by doing several tests. Nursing assistants should have the Certified Nursing Assistants license. The National Commission for Certifying Association administers the certificates for proof
of licensing (Nunnery, 2019). The degree certificates are additionally required for one to be considered a nurse. One cannot take a license test without having the certificate proving they are done with their coursework. Degree certificates required are
different depending on the specialty, and the level of the hospital one is dealing with. There are Specialty certifications which are all granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre. Credentials for a nurse the initial credential is the educational degree.
The degree certificate at a state level is an associate degree in nursing. In contrast, the credential for a nursing position at the national level is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Licensure is very important in the credentials. A nursing license shows that one is a registered nurse and meets the standard licensing policies, which oversee one’s knowledge in practice. If one has awards and honors, one must present such opportunities to secure a higher nursing level. The highest level of education that nurses can
attain in their careers is Doctorate of Nursing Practice. This degree helps one gain entry into national nursing position levels. Advancement opportunities for nurses Nurses have various opportunities when it comes to advancing in their careers. Nurses have the option of gaining a certificate in an area of specialty as a means of advancing. With more certificates, one is guaranteed job promotions and higher responsibilities. An additional way to advance one’s career in nursing is to get an advanced degree in
nursing (Kim et al.,2015). Options such as Masters’ and doctorate degrees are viable for nurses who want to grow in their careers. With both a Master’s degree and a doctorate’s, which is more advanced, an individual can gain positions beyond the hospital areas. For example, the degrees can enable the individual to be a nursing lecturer in medical schools depending on their degree’s specialty. Furthermore, nurses can move from clinical work to management positions. Kim,2015 explains that most nurses
often begin their career in fieldwork and later decide which path to venture while making advancements in their careers. Getting into management bodies is a viable option since they will be overseeing other nurses. The individual will be the overall manager
over the other nurses. Doing managerial duties does not necessarily put the individual off the clinical work. Instead, they can do the clinical work while overseeing the operations of other nurses. According to Kim,2015, working in one medical area can gain experience and make the area their specialty. Experience is essential as it provides knowledge to be a high-level nurse. This option is very suitable for nurses who have a passion for certain areas. For example, one can begin their career while working in the
women’s section and advance over time in the same field. Other nurses can also venture into administrative areas. An individual can work in either medical. or educational institutions as an administrative nurse. Administrative positions mean that the
individual is less likely to do any clinical or fieldwork. Demand of jobs Statistics show that by 2030, the demand for nurses will be higher. The number of nurses required globally is increasing due to the nature of hospital services. The demand is expected to
increase by 9% annually, thus showing that by the year 2030, the number of nurses will have doubled (Nunnery,2019). The requirements for being a registered nurse are as indicated above. Individuals are advised to venture into this career because of its high
employment demand. Nurse’s salary Salaries are never the motivation to take a particular course. However, going for a competitive and well-paying career is motivating. Different nurses perform different roles and play different responsibilities. The salary
of a nurse depends on their field of specialization and their skills and position. Another factor that affects the salary rates is the state where one practices as a registered nurse and the level of a medical facility. A nurse assistant earns up to $30,720 on average, the licensed practical and vocational nurse gets $48,500, a nurse practitioner gets $111,840, registered nurses get $77,460 and nurse-midwife earns $108,841(Nunnery,2019). These statistics show the average amount that different nurses get. It
should be noted the higher the level of education, the higher the salary. Other nursing specialties offer different amounts depending on the sensitivity of the area.
