Benefit of Accelerated Technological Innovation
Writing Assignment #2
100 pts
Assignment – you get to choose the topic, and topic selection is very important. Choose a component of ITS that interests you and write about the application, use, association or impact that item has on business, the world, or even your selected area of study / future employment.
Some examples could be:
- The future role of big data in specific industries
- Is ethical hacking (hacktivist) a good or bad thing and why?
- Is it ethical for companies to monitor your email, internet searches or even social media posts? DON’T USE THIS ONE
- What is the greatest risk / benefit of accelerated technological innovation?
- Who is a leading / impactful modern technologist and why
I really expect to see some thought and effort into the topic selection. The more specific you make your topic, the more you will enjoy writing about it; which will show in your work. This is NOT simply a research paper. I want your opinions and insights included. Tell me what your position is and why. Support your position with strong sources. Be humble in your approach. It’s ok to have strong opinions, especially if you can support them; but understand that other scholars and academics may have contrary opinions. You have a better chance of convincing people of your perspective when you logically and humbly present your position.
I really want to see you take some of concepts and ideas we’ve talked about this term and apply them in a real world setting.
Please structure this assignment as a formal paper. You should use at least 3 outside sources. News sites, company web sites, blogs, etc… are good sources, but I want you to also look at using academic and professional sources as well – try Google Scholar for your search or even the UTD library. You MUST list your references appropriately as well a use proper in-text citations – Failure to do so will result in loss of points, up to and including a zero for this assignment. As this is a formal paper, I will be looking for the following:
- Logical presentation of the article (introduction including a strong thesis statement, supporting content and conclusion).
- Presentation of YOUR thoughts and ideas – this is not simply a research paper.
- Proper spelling and grammar. Proof read your article before submitting!
- Do not use slang, vulgar language or excessive acronyms (unless they are initially identified)
- Use of at least 3 appropriate sources
- Originality
- 1500 to 2000 words
