History Discussion at the Charleston Museum’s Historical Collection
You will respond to questions about the American Republic’s longevity, who you believe is an unsung hero in early American history, and which historical museums, monuments, battlefield sites, or historic locations you recommend visiting in our final Discussion Board forum. Here are your instructions for Discussion Board #5. Make one (1) post
answering one of the three questions below. Here are some questions to consider:
Given the fact that republics are short-lived, explain how the American republic has lasted for over 230 years. To put it another way, why do you think the American experiment has lasted so long as a republic? What is the reason for the Constitution’s strength and structure? In your formative years, did you have brilliant leadership? What is the
relationship between economic growth, opportunity, and capitalism? Are there any specific liberties? What is the personality of the American people? Geographical advantages land and frontier? Only a few foes? Are you able to expand and conquer? What is the best way to expand democracy? There could be a variety of explanations, but focus on
the one you believe is the most important and support and argue for it. In addition, if the American republic appears to be in jeopardy, you can write about some current concerns or worries.
What early American historical figure do you believe is an unsung hero? To put it another way, someone who isn’t a major historical figure but deserves to be recognized and praised for their achievements. From colonial times to 1865, what important role did this figure play in American history? You can choose from a man, a woman, an African-
American, a Native American, a Hispanic, an Asian, or a European.
Recommend a historic museum, exhibition, town, battlefield, or historic site for your classmates to visit. What about this location is significant, reflective, or even awe-inspiring? What aspects of early American history are honored and memorialized here (stay before 1865)? Explain what you’ll see, what the setting is like, and what you learned from your
time there.
For this Discussion Board, here are the instructions and criteria:
For five points, you must have one (1) post.
In your posts, provide insightful and well-reasoned support. Demonstrate serious thought reflection.
Each written post should be 75-150 words in length. You may write more, but don’t go overboard; don’t write less than this word count; this word count should be sufficient to develop your ideas concisely.
Remember to avoid copying and pasting information from the internet. Your post must be written entirely by you.
Keep in mind that you must post before viewing the posts of your classmates. To begin your reply, point and click Reply, which will bring up a text box. Then, after you’ve gone over what you’ve written, click Post Reply. Then you’ll be able to read the posts made by your classmates.
In your posts, remember to follow the rules of civility and proper academic conduct. Avoid using vulgar, impolite, or insensitive language. In a response, you may disagree with someone, but be respectful. Above all, DO NOT ATTACK ANYONE PERSONALLY FOR THEIR OPINIONS.
You may make as many posts as you want, but the maximum number of points for Discussion Board #5 is five.
