Admission Essay on Academic and Professional Goals
Personal Essay (2-page max) *THIS FIELD IS REQUIRED.
The personal essay should include a summary of your background, creative interests, academic and professional goals. The personal essay may include unusual life experiences, important influences in your life, your motivation to study film and television, and the kind of creative work you hope to pursue. Do not use the personal essay to flatter us; use these few pages to create a very personal and vivid picture of yourself, what is most important to you, and your creative and professional goals.
Personal Experience:
I was born in Cuba in the year 2000 and lived the first fourteen years of my life in a humble town, somehow isolated from the latest technologic arrivals, Wi-Fi connection, or even a phone. Back then, in middle school, Microsoft Word 2003 was the best program that my school could aspire to. I remember there were fewer computers than the fingers on my left hand. However, my classmates and I would always take turns, regardless of our eagerness to spend as much time as we could, sitting in front of the screen. When I started high school, things started to change.
The constant tick-tock in my head reminded me that this was just not enough; that being limited by the regime of a communist country to obtain the career I desired was absurd; that sooner or later, I would have to choose an occupation to do for the rest of my life. Fortunately, I realized soon enough that absolutely nothing motivated me. That was just not my place. It was on January 31st of 2015 when I arrived in the United States; the place where everything was possible; a country with far more opportunities than the fingers on my left hand, my right, and toes. Here, at last, I discovered that my education was finally valuable, and my future had now a warmer tone.
I took advantage of the academic opportunities that benefitted me the most, which made high school an unforgettable experience, and the spark that would ignite later on my passion for film and digital media. I chose film production as my absolute career, hobby, and favorite game. With the resources that this academic system provides, I am giving my life the turn it deserved, and my ambition has no educational barriers to stop me from doing what I love. Finally, I am making it happen.
