Assignment Equations of Vertical and Horizontal Lines
Write equations for the horizontal and vertical lines described in the real-world situations below.
- In many cities and towns across the United States, the numbering system of the
roads is based on a grid, similar to the latitude and longitude lines on a globe.
Suppose the green lines in the following graph represent two east-west and two
north-south running roads in a Midwestern town.
Write equations for the two horizontal and two vertical lines that represent roads in
the town.
- The Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower) in Chicago, Illinois, is the
tallest building in the United States. Measuring 1,450 feet, the tower contains 110
stories filled with a combination of office and retail space. The base of the tower is
made up of nine 75’ × 75’ squares. Suppose the square graphed on the coordinate
plane below represents the base of the Willis Tower.

Write equations for the two horizontal and two vertical lines that pass through the square.
- Think of another real-world situation that might involve horizontal and vertical lines.
Write a description of the situation and draw the graph of a coordinate plane with two
horizontal and two vertical lines to represent your situation. Draw the lines so that two
of them pass through positive values and the other two pass through negative values
on the coordinate plane. Then write equations for all four of the lines on your graph.

Assignment 1.3 – Investigate A Social Issue Draft
Assignment 1.3: Investigate a Social Issue Draft
Due Week 8Faculty Note: Students will turn in this assignment twice: first as a draft (Week 8 Assignment) and then as a final paper (Week 10 Assignment). Students will submit first draft of the assignment and then submit the final draft after receiving feedback from the professor and making the recommended changes. They will be graded separately for each submission of the assignment.
You have already developed a thesis statement and developed an outline in which you explored three (3) main points relevant to your topic of interest. Now you will develop a draft paper in which you explore your main points in detail.
Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
1.Introduce your paper with your previously crafted thesis statement.
2.Describe how your issue fits into the field of sociology. Determine the sociological theories and terminology from the text that apply to your social issue. (Note: Link back to the main points described in the outline.)
3.Discuss what is known and unknown about your particular issue. (Note: Link back to the main points described in the outline.)
4.Discuss the value of sociological research into your issue. Determine whether or not there are (or would be) practical implications of sociological inquiry. (Note: Link back to the main points described in the outline.)
5.Use three (3) credible sources and APA citations where appropriate.Assignment Equations of Vertical and Horizontal Lines

Review of relevant theoretical literature is evident, but there is little integration of studies into concepts related to problem. Review is partially focused and organized. Supporting and opposing research are included. Summary of information presented is included. Conclusion may not contain a biblical integration.
