Week 2 – Discriminate Learning Needs Assignment
Instructions
In this week’s assignment, you’ll create the learning scenario that will serve as the foundation for the majority of your other assignments in this course. Your learning scenario can be based on a problem that exists in your current or previous organization, or a change that has been requested by key stakeholders. Focus on who is being asked to change (the target audience), what is currently happening (“as is”), and what stakeholders want to happen after a training or educational intervention (“to be” or “future” state). Maintain a simple learning scenario with a single problem or change that you believe can be addressed through training or education.
Your learning scenario can be based on real-life, hypothetical, or past experiences. If you aren’t an instructional designer, but have taken a course or training program that failed to meet learning objectives or close a performance gap, you could use that learning scenario as an example. If you are currently employed as an instructional designer, you may choose a current project or a portion of a current project to work on for this assignment.
As always, if you need assistance formulating your learning scenario so that it includes a clear learning need, contact your professor.
Make sure your assignment includes the following elements:
Describe the learning scenario in as much detail as possible. Make a note of the current state (“as is) as well as the desired future state (“to be”). Even if the scenario isn’t based on true events, use made-up names for people and organizations. You can tailor the assignment to your interests and experiences by creating your own learning scenario. A learner-centered design is a term used to describe this approach.
Examine the scenario’s learning requirements. Begin by describing the learning requirement and how you know it exists.
Justify which model (problem, innovation, or disparity) you believe should be used to conduct the needs assessment.
Discuss any ethical, legal, or political considerations that may affect the identification or analysis of the learning need or model of needs assessment. Would the organization, for example, be liable for penalties if your investigation revealed that mandatory safety training had not taken place, despite the fact that it was required? What if your bosses pressurize you to ignore certain findings in favor of their own viewpoints?
Excluding the title and reference pages, the length should be 3-5 pages.
Include a minimum of three scholarly resources in your references.
By providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic, the completed assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course. The content should be written in a scholarly manner and adhere to current APA guidelines.
Please come up with a scenario involving men’s college basketball.
