Order ID:89JHGSJE83839 Style:APA/MLA/Harvard/Chicago Pages:5-10 Instructions:
Causes, Characteristics and Consequences of War Assignment
Topic: Political Science (War: causes, characteristics and consequences)
Instructions
Type: Two essay questions. Q1: 400 word (+/- 30 words), Q2: 500 words (+/- 30 words). Answers that are too short or too long will not be able to receive full points.
Nature: using critical skills to synthesize knowledge from our lectures, lecture slides and readings
Requirements: for Q1 you will need to use two (2) relevant readings of your choice from our syllabus from the first term. For Q2, you will need to use three (3) readings.
Please note that the readings will have to be different for each question (i.e., you cannot use the same readings for both questions).
References to readings need not be long to demonstrate one has read and understood them, but they should not be mere mentions either.
In terms of each citation, you are free to use which ever you want (do so consistently), but for economy of space I would recommend in-text Chicago style [simply name, year and text page(s)-e.g. (John 2020, 193-194)].
If you use lecture slides (they do not count towards the 2+3 readings required), you can simply cite as “LS# (number of week)”. If you want to quote directly, add the slide page nr (e.g., “LS#8, 24”).
There is no need for a bibliography at the end of your answer.
Backup (only to be used in the rare case of Quercus disruption): copy and paste your responses into a Word document. In the event of any problem submitting on Quercus, you can submit this Word document via email at Spyridon.Kotsovilis@utoronto.ca as your test.
The Department will not accept such emergency email submissions past 3:15pm EST (10 minutes by the end of the test).
Note:
This is “not” an argumentative essay, it’s an exam. However, no actual questions given, but use the above instructions to do your writing (some or half of whatever you write might not even be part of the exam). So, just focus on the most important aspects of the material provided (the readings and ppts). And it’s not like a mere summary, but rather a concise and good understanding and explanation of what is being said.
Total word counts between the readings and the ppts should be around 2000 words, or more is fine, but not less (about 400 to 500 words for each topic)’ some of the topics are closely related (e.g. Weeks 4, 5 & 6 ppts they talk about: Systemic level realist approaches to war, Key assumptions & Systemic level II & III- Realist approaches: Mitigation interstate conflict, respectively. These are all related. But since these 3 ppts, you need to use about 300 to 400 words for each (again, make sure you tell the section with titles and subheadings). Use points format (e.g. A, b, c, or 1, 2, 3, etc.) to elucidate things.
You need to read the power point slides along with the reading material and connect the reading material(s) that is relevant to the ppt slides. You need to allocate about 300 to 400 words towards topic of the lecture slides (ppts) and about 100 to 150 words towards the corresponding reading. You need to have separate titles and subheadings for each (e.g. If you used week 10 ppt that says: “State level: The rational actor model & war,” then you must mention that, and if the corresponding reading content used is let say stuff from week# 9 “Organized violence,” then mention it as week 9 reading with its title. Off course, you need to mention the author’s name whenever there is one.
In total you’ll have about 7 short ppts and about 5 readings (ranging from 7 to 14 pages, or so).
There is no thesis statement, but you need to read carefully and extract the most important components of each reading/power point. E.g. What are the core arguments/assumptions of the “realism approach?” Or what are the main causes of war/conflict?
Use plain and clear language (2nd year university level)
No research, or outside sources to be used.
Zero plagiarism
Must adhere to confidentiality
Must use the Chicago style of author, date & page number for quotations
If you agree with the instructions laid out here, then you need to confirm with me via email before I can send you the texts.
