Getting Started
Project (research paper) for successful completion of internship requirement for all students who meet eligibility. Students may choose any company or complete the analysis of the company they work for and must provide company name to professor before starting project.
Projects must be discussed with faculty throughout the time student is working on project to ensure the integrity and successful completion of same. Project is a comparative industry analysis of an organization, to be determined by student with faculty approval.
Project Guidelines
Title of research paper: A Comparative Industry Analysis of (Name of Company and Industry)
Discuss project with faculty, employer, partner, or other significant person at work and obtain their cooperation with project; or if sole proprietor discusses with faculty. Their role will be to read and evaluate project progress. Implementation of findings is not required.
SWOT Analysis that considers both current and potential conditions. This two-step process will provide a perspective of any possible dynamic changes facing the organization. Discuss findings with faculty.
Describe firms assets (tangible and intangible). Competitive advantage is more likely to be based on intangible assets.
Utilize both PESTEL and Porters Five Forces competitive advantage framework to identify the competitive position held by the firm. Discuss framework and how it will be applied in proposal to sustain the firms competitive advantage.
Identify the firms core competencies (one or two) that are central to the firms competitive advantage.
Create a viable construct utilizing the PESTEL and Porters Five Forces framework that will harness the information gathered to provide management with a comprehensive view of the firms current state and suggestions for performance improvement and implementation methodology.
Employer/Faculty evaluation sign-off (midpoint not needed, only final), can be faculty, supervisor, manager, partner, HR, accountant, etc.; or if sole proprietor, faculty.
Research Paper and Course Work
· All work must be completed in 7th edition APA format, cover page, headings, in-text citations, and References page. Work must reflect the use of academic journals, textbooks, business databases, etc.
o Research paper must strictly conform to APA 7th edition in structure and format.
· Student must maintain contact with professor to discuss progress.
· Analysis must be between 20-30 pages in length and show quality research, writing, and analysis.
