1st Assignment: [#hashtag] Slideshow Presentation (ten percent of the grade): In this assessment activity, you will select a current hashtag and develop a digital presentation based on the categories indicated below using an internet platform of your choosing.
Your assignment is to develop an 8- to 12-slide presentation about a specific hashtag that is being utilized to form a digital community. Your presentation should show how social groups and/or non-profit organizations are using the hashtag as a tool for awareness, community, and spreadability.
Make sure to include the following in your presentation:
An explanation of where it came from (if possible).
An examination of its popularity and utility (i.e., clarify particular sites, demographics, trending info, etc.).
A discussion of how it relates to the course’s major terms (i.e., participatory media, viral media, etc.).
Media coverage, as well as reactions to/discussions about this hashtag.
Examples of how it’s been used in both positive and negative ways on social media sites. Finish with a critical critique (1-2 slides) that clarifies the presentation’s success as a form of digital interaction. Create the slideshow in a standard presentation application like Keynote or PowerPoint, or send a Prezi link to your instructor.
Send the material to a member of the Open Learning Faculty for review. Send a document with the URL to the Open Learning Faculty Member if you wish to do the project in an online format, such as Prezi.
