Instructions:
This activity is designed to allow you to apply psychological concepts to your own life and learn how to make daily changes to get more out of your day! This activity is divided into two parts. Complete the morning-eveningness circadian
rhythm questionnaire and the day-to-day mindfulness questionnaire (attached here). The completed questionnaires do not need to be uploaded. Answer the following questions:
Report your mindfulness score after completing the day-to-day questionnaire (it is the sum of the 15 questions, so scores can range from 15-90). Higher scores indicate greater mindfulness, or paying more attention to and being aware of
current events. Scores are linked to a variety of flourishing indicators, including life satisfaction, optimism, and self-esteem. Higher scores are also linked to lower levels of anxiety, depression, and hostility. Mindfulness, according to
researchers, promotes well-being and happiness by enhancing the clarity and vividness of experience. It may also make it easier for us to choose behaviors that are in line with our needs, values, and passions. Consider what you can do to improve your mindfulness (https://www.mindful.org/mindfulness-how-to-do-it/). Choose from a variety of online mindfulness meditations (just do a google search to find one). After you’ve finished the meditation, talk about how you feel. Is this
something you’d consider incorporating into your daily routine?
Fill out the questionnaire on circadian rhythms. What was your final grade? This questionnaire will help you understand all of the factors that influence circadian rhythms, such as sleeping and waking cycles, body temperature, and blood sugar
levels. After you’ve finished the questionnaire, apply what you’ve learned about your own circadian rhythm to your daily life by talking about how it affects your personal and social lives. For example, when would be the best time of day for you to work and why, based on your rhythm? When and why should you take on the most difficult projects? When should you try to relax the most, and why? When do you think it would be most beneficial to include mindfulness meditation in your daily routine, and why?
