Summary of the film: Jerry and Dorothy married recently for the sake of convenience. Despite the fact that they are husband and wife, they have a distant relationship. They’re going through the rituals of married life, despite the fact that every
other connection in the scenario is more intimate than theirs. Jerry is enthusiastic about his job as a sports agent, but not so much about his wife. As a result, throughout their bedroom conversation, he gives her a range of disconfirming
messages (some vocal, some nonverbal).
The elements that determine emotional experience and expression are discussed in Chapter 8.
Answer each of the following questions in a post in the discussion forum by Thursday:
What makes a communicator emotionally intelligent?
Who do you think is an emotionally intelligent communicator in the video? Give an example to support your decision.
What is the tone of Jerry’s conversation with Dorothy in his bedroom? Please explain why. Consider who might be an emotionally inefficient communicator in this setting. Choose which of the “display rules” this character illustrates and explain your choice with an example.
What changes could Jerry make to better communicate his thoughts, feelings, and wants to Dorothy, based on the readings in this module and what you’ve already learned about emotional intelligence and communication competency? To
finish your response, review any relevant information from prior chapters.
**Citations must be included in the text. At the end of your post, please include a complete citation.
REMEMBER: Rather than a list of responses to the set of prompts, you want to write a fully developed response with a logical flow. You can choose whether or not to react in the order they are listed above.
Read your classmates’ discussion thread entries by Sunday and answer to two of them.
