Eleanor Roosevelt Essay at East Tennessee State University
The Great Thinker whose name I will use in my final Research Essay and Presentation is:
Eleanor Roosevelt was the first lady of the United States.
1st Research Paper
Each student will write a 5- to 6-page essay in which he or she will examine his or her personal environment and worldview via the study of a famous thinker. The paper should be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, with 1 margins, and submitted via Canvas in Week 6. You must cite your sources because this is an authentic research paper (3-4 sources). Any citation style (APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.) is acceptable as long as it is used consistently.
A religious leader, philosopher, scientist, or notable thinker from recent history will be chosen by the student (the list from which to choose is provided at the end of the syllabus, Appendix B, but the student may also choose a thinker who is not
on the list). The student should consider how that person has influenced the culture in which the student lives based on an analysis of the individual’s writings (you MUST refer to some of his/her publications) and life accomplishments, as well
as through the use of biographical materials. What are the thinker’s religious beliefs or life philosophy? What impact has this thinker had on modern culture? How has this thinker influenced your perspective (knowingly or unknowingly)? What
does this mean for how you perceive the world and how you choose to embrace or reject cultural elements?
The document should not be written in the format of a report that addresses the above-mentioned questions. Rather, give your reader a picture of the great thinker and his or her impact:
-At the start of the article, give some biographical information as well as a quick introduction to the topic.
-The middle of the paper should focus on the answers to the assignment’s questions. This knowledge should be a blend of the person’s writings, art, and music, as well as biographical details and the student’s own perspective.
-In the conclusion of the paper, the student should discuss how knowing about this person has influenced their own culture and context.
2- Presenting your research
Each student will construct a 10-minute power point presentation based on the Research Essay, which will include the following: Notes and powerpoint presentations
To the assignment, provide both the powerpoint file and any additional notes. Students can also store their speeches on each slide by using the notes tool in Power Point.
