Instructions:
REFLECTION ON A MOVIE
You will view a Spanish-language film and write on it. You must choose a film from a Spanish-speaking country (select a movie from the list below). Many are also available through Netflix or other streaming services. A few may also be available with English subtitles on YouTube.
You must view the film in order to hear the Spanish, thus you will need to use English subtitles to comprehend what is going on.
There are three steps to the Movie Reflection extra credit assignment:
I. As you watch the movie, make a list of at least 20 words you know or comprehend from the context and subtitles. Make a note of their English translation as well.
II. Write about three characters from the movie. Write a short paragraph on each character that includes at least 5 different verbs and 5 different adjectives for each character. Include a range of verb kinds, such as -ar, -er, -ir, stem-changing, and irregular yo-form, in your list. Make sure you’re using the present indicative tense alone!
III. Write a brief review of the film in English (no more than 200 words). Do not give a summary of the film! Instead, express your own thoughts and reactions. What did you take away from the film’s focus on Hispanic culture and/or history? Include your thoughts on what you enjoyed and didn’t like about the film, as well as why. Also, make a list of the parallels and differences you saw between your culture and the one depicted in the film. What did you take away from the film’s history and cultural expressions? What do you believe the reason(s) for cultural expressions are?
NOTE: Your Movie Reflection must be typed and DOUBLE-SPACED, and it must be submitted on Blackboard by December 1st.
