REPLY TO CLASSMATE’S DISCUSSION
Do you believe that a juvenile should be tried as an adult for a capital crime? Explain your reasoning.
PLEASE REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS)
CLASSMATE’S POST
I feel that in all capital cases a juvenile should be charged as an adult. I would base my argument that a capital crime is one of such a violent nature it would be hard to handle such an offense it juvenile court. A capital crime is one that requires great thought and reason to plan out and execute in opposed to a negligent act such as manslaughter were death or injury was not of a planned or thought out act. If we take adults off the streets for life for committing the same type of act than the same should apply to a juvenile as well. If the crime is one that causes that great of risk to the public safety and can be done by someone of such a young age with no mitigating factors such as a defense of abuse or self-defense, then this should show with the same as an adult that this person tough a juvenile does not have a place in a civil society. The adult system at a minimum will provide a more secure detention and public safety option that is why it should not just be an option but the only option.
