Final Project Phase 2 on SWOT Analysis (Organization: McDonalds)
A SWOT analysis guides one in identifying the organization’s strengths and weaknesses and broader opportunities and threats. Having full awareness of the situation at hand helps with strategic planning and sound decision-making (GURL, 2017). Initially, SWOT analysis was developed for industry and business, but with time has grown to be helpful in education, health, and community development. This analysis can be helpful when it comes to exploring possibilities for new efforts and solutions to various problems, making decisions about the best path for a given initiative, determining where change is possible, and adjusting and at the same time refining plans mid-course. Additionally, it also offers a simple way of communicating about the initiatives and excellent ways of organizing information that one has gathered from studies and surveys (Elavarasan et al.,2020).
Strengths
McDonald’s Corporation is one of the largest fast-food companies in the United States, which is best known for humbuggers, French fries, and cheeseburgers, to mention but a few. The organization uses a SWOT analysis in its business which has helped it grow and advance. The Company’s success can be attributed to various factors, among them being consistency, quality service, cleanliness and value, innovation, resilience, and the fact that it has most of its focus based on the future (Bailey, 2017). Resilience in the Company means that all the stores in which it operates offer the same experience to customers, which is very important in business. Having such a business calls for cleanliness and quality, and therefore in the case of McDonald’s, customers understand what to expect and at the same time rely on such knowledge in the event they want to make decisions. The Company has also been able to develop innovative ideas on how to do things and satisfy their clients. Another strength in the Company is that it has taken some steps towards transparency which is also critical in such a business.
The success of these strengths has been contributed by the effective management offered by the top managers. In this case, managers have had the opportunity to engage customers and understand where improvements can be made. Having customer reviews has been crucial in making essential changes in the Company. Besides, the Company’s missions and visions have also played a role in ensuring that it achieves competitive advantage in the market. The Company’s vision is to move with velocity to drive profitable growth and become an even better fast-food Company while serving more customers delicious food every day across the world. The Company also has a good strategy that helps it to meet the set goals and objectives. One of the main strategies is a plan and win and consists of the five Ps: pricing, place, promotion, people, and product. The strategy has helped the Company to achieve the bottom-line objectives while at the same time ensuring that customers are satisfied.
Weaknesses
Any company or organization operating in the market is prone to having weaknesses that can affect its performance. These weaknesses can affect the performance in a big way hence reducing the rate of profit maximization and customer satisfaction which is very important for every organization. The Company’s weaknesses are linked to its market focus, products, and process. Some of the factors that limit the firm’s performance include limited process flexibility, low product diversification, and being vulnerable to the western market decline. The Company’s standardization ensures consistency which is very crucial for its growth and development. However, this reduces its flexibility in responding to market variations.
On the other hand, low product diversification corresponds to the Company’s focus on food and beverage products hence not giving customers a more comprehensive range of variety from where they can choose from. Additionally, the majority of the firm’s revenue comes from the US and other Western economies. This also falls as a weakness since it makes the firm easily vulnerable to declines as far as economies are concerned. This analysis, therefore, implies that the Company ought to expand its global business while at the same time improving flexibility and widening its product mix.
The above SWOT analysis shows that the Company can effectively improve its business viability through continued global expansion. Besides, the Company can reduce the risks that can affect its business operations to a large extent by introducing new products and entering into new industries related to the Company’s operations (Bailey, 2017).
