Securing funding for programs is no easy task, is it a highly competitive, labor-intensive process. Moreover, because financial support is limited, securing funding must be considered a regular activity of work rather than a special project. This likely ensures that sufficient time is set aside for investigating and pursuing funding, recognizing the significance of pursuing funding alongside managing daily operations since both are ongoing tasks requiring specific attention (Calley, 2010). The main focus in the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program is Community Mobilization and Sustainability, seeking to engage all sectors of the population in a community wide effort to address teen pregnancy prevention. Community mobilization supports the sustainability of teen pregnancy prevention efforts by empowering community members and groups to take action to facilitate change. This component includes mobilizing necessary resources, disseminating information, generating support, and fostering cooperation across public and private sectors in the community.
Featured grant opportunities Tier 1 and Tier 2 is a funding that would be used it is related to demonstrating the effectiveness of multi-component, community-wide approaches to teenage pregnancy prevention. This announcement utilizes up to $10,000,000 of the $25,000,000 available under Tier 2 for research and demonstration projects. This joint announcement between the Office of Adolescent Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support demonstration cooperative agreements to test innovative, sustainable, community-wide, multi-component initiatives for preventing teenage pregnancy and teen births in communities with the highest rates, with a focus on reaching African American and Latino youth aged 15-19. This is one of the first times that a coordinated, multi-component, community-wide initiative approach will be used to integrate, sustain, and evaluate the overall impact of combined efforts to widely disseminate evidence-based and/or evidence-informed programs; increase linkages between teen pregnancy prevention programs and community-based clinical services; and support state and local strategies to prevent teen pregnancy and teen births across carefully defined geographic areas (youth.gov).
Governmental funded programs under the Office of Population Affairs (OPA) is another fund that would be used. The OPA Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program is a national, evidence-based grant program that funds diverse organizations working to prevent teen pregnancy across the United States. OPA invests in the implementation of effective TPP programs and provides funding to develop and evaluate new and innovative approaches to prevent teen pregnancy, prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among adolescents, and promote optimal health.
