This lab requires measuring the height from which the object will be dropped and properly noting the time from release to impact on the floor. This lab focuses on gathering precise data in order to calculate the value for
gravity acceleration. g = 9.8 m/s2 is the recognized value for gravity acceleration. Students will choose three heights that are more than 12 meters apart. A minimum height of 1.0 meter will be required. Students will time
themselves five times for each drop height and average the results. The value for gravity will be calculated using the average time for each height. The learner will next determine the % difference between the calculated
number and the accepted figure for gravity acceleration.
Everything you’ll need for this lab is in the file I’ve uploaded; you’ll need:
1 Ball
1 Stop A watch that can keep track of time in fractions of a second. Use a timer on your computer or phone as a recommendation.
1 measuring tape
You can use any little ball with a diameter of 2-6cm.
