Discuss how passage of the ACA has changed or will change the quality of services delivered to the consumer, the ultimate stakeholder in healthcare services.
The Affordable Care Act has revolutionized the health sector in many different ways. Numerous changes have been implemented or will be implemented that will see to it that the quality of services continues to improve. Below are some of the changes the Affordable care act has brought that have improved the quality of services delivered to the consumer.
First and foremost is the improved time a patient or an individual gets with a doctor. New care models such as primary care medical homes or accountable organizations offer that health care support when patients require tithe comprehensive care model, for instance, serves over 2.5 million patients and more patients can initiate contact with his or her doctor any time of the week (“Alcalá, Chen, Langellier, Roby, & Ortega, 2017”). This reduces costs in terms of the trips that could have been made when the situation could have been addressed over a phone call.
Insurance coverage expansion is another benefit that has reduced medical costs in different aspects. There is premium support for those between 100 and 400 percent of the federal poverty level. More individuals will be paying less with an average premium for a household you be $1800 from the $2000 it used to be. Additionally, businesses with an excess of fifty employees are required to offer health insurance to each of their employees (“4 Ways the Affordable Care Act Is Improving the Quality of Health Care in America,” 2015).
There is an improvement in performance by the health care providers. This is a result of the “star rating” created by Medicare which enables rating of the services offered by the health care providers. This has led to improved health services such as health care providers making a follow up to the patient after a long stay in a health facility. Proper electronic storage of patient records to improve service delivery and reduce mistakes in health facilities is another area that has seen improvement under this act (Parente, Feldman, Spetz, Dowd, & Baggett, 2016).
