Description
PLEASE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW EACH STEP
You are going to write an Expository essay. An expository essay instructs, provides information, or explains. In this essay, you are presenting information and explaining why you think the Greek scientist/physician “Hippocrates” left a great legacy.
1) Writing the Thesis: Thesis: ____________________blank was an ancient Greek scientist/Physician who left a great legacy because ________________________________________________________________________________b
** Use your thesis statement to introduce the essay. The introduction should get the reader’s attention and set the scene, so you may want to add some historical information or an explanation before or after the thesis statement. The introduction should tell the reader what the essay is about (Don’t write more than five sentences.)
As you research, remember that you are looking for specific information about the persons accomplishments and legacy. The information needs to support your idea that the ancient Greek scientist made significant contributions to society and how we can still his work today.
2) Your essay should include an introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Each paragraph should cover one main topic and should correspond to a Roman numeral (I., II., III.) The main topics should cover:
· The persons accomplishment and contributions
· The impact of his accomplishments or contributions in ancient times
· The impact of his accomplishments or contributions in modern times
3) Write a topic sentence for each paragraph of your essay. Be sure it tells the reader what the section will be about and how the information relates to your thesis statement. Your topic sentence for the introductory paragraph might say something like
Hippocrates was a Greek scientist who left a great legacy. A topic sentence for the second paragraph the first main topicmight be something like “Hippocrates left a great legacy by contributing to our understanding of the role of nutrition in good health.
4) Decide which pieces of information you will use to support your topic sentences. (These ideas or groups of facts are called subtopics.) Subtopics follow capital letters and periods (A., B., C.) on your outline. Add this information beneath your topic sentence.
5) You can further divide subtopics into specific facts. In an outline, specific facts follow Arabic numerals and periods (1., 2., 3., 4.).
6) Write a concluding paragraph that summarizes the main ideas of the essay and restates the thesis statement in some way. Write no more than five sentences.
