Incorporating the Six Pillars Of Character Assignment
Week 2 – Assignment
Social Media
Read the scenario provided below and incorporate the six pillars of character as you address a possible solution.
Scenario
Mr. Y is a new teacher in his first 90 days of employment in his district. He has made friends with many staff members and invited them to visit his social network page. On his website, Mr. Y has listed quite a bit of personal information. One of his colleagues visited the site and became very concerned because the site included a statement that Mr. Y was attracted to young girls, stating “the younger the better.”
The colleague notified the principal of this information.
Consider the following questions and provide your responses in a 2 – 3 page APA formatted paper.
What possible issues/concerns might this scenario raise?
In this situation, what are some potential negative consequences for the teacher, for the students and the school community?
Which of the “Six Pillars of Character” do you believe Mr. Y has violated on his social media page?
What responses/actions will result in a more positive outcome and/or what proactive measures might be considered?

Career Options
When most people think of the careers in education, they default to a classroom teacher. In the past decade, the education arena has broadened to offer a wide array of career opportunities.
Use the World Wide Web to research career options within the education arena. Consider these three things:
The “WHY” you identified. (Week 1).
How the “Six Pillars of Character” come into play as educators relate to their students (week 2).
The education level which interests you (early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, adult).
Other than classroom teacher, identify one alternate career path which might interest you.
As you share your findings with your classmates, include the following:
A description of the position and its duties.
Where would one expect to work if employed in this position?
The minimum level of education required to serve in that position.
The skills and experience required to serve in that position.
The salary range advertised for the position.
Guided Response: Consider and respond to the career options shared in at least two of your classmates’ posts. Provide your reaction to the career paths they shared…Did you know those paths existed, or were they new discoveries for you? In addition to your two classmate responses, be sure to respond to any questions or comments posted by your instructor.

In this journal entry you will reflect upon what has been discussed thus far in this course.
Identify the level of education in which you wish to serve (early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school, adult).
Elaborate on your feelings about how the discussions in this course thus far matches your qualities and characteristics to serve in the education field.
Has your desire to become an educator increased or decreased since the beginning of this course and what has sparked that change?
