Prepare an 8-10 minute audio training session on the importance of nursing-sensitive quality indicators for new nurses (video is optional).
You are recommended to do the Conabedian Quality Assessment Framework activity as you begin to construct this assessment. Systematic activity is required for high-quality healthcare delivery. Completing this will assist you in completing the assessment by allowing you to consider how the triad of structure (such as the hospital, clinic, provider qualifications/organizational characteristics) and process (such as delivery/coordination/education/protocols/practice style or standard of care) can be changed to achieve quality outcomes.
The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI®) was established by the American Nursing Association (ANA) in 1998 to measure and report on quality indicators that are substantially influenced by nursing action.
The NDNQI® was created as a systematic method of assessing nursing performance in relation to patient outcomes. It includes a database and a quality-control tool for tracking clinical performance and comparing nurse quality metrics to other hospital data at the national, regional, and state levels. Nursing-sensitive quality indicators aid in the formulation of evidence-based practice guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as quality improvement educational initiatives, outreach, and protocol development.
The three types of quality indicators that the NDNQI® monitors are structure, procedure, and outcome. These categories were first identified by the theorist Avedis Donabedian. The relationships between quality outcomes and the structures and processes of care were central to Donabedian’s idea of quality health care (Grove, Gray, Jay, Jay, & Burns, 2015).
Nurses must be aware of the indications that their workplaces track. Some nurses provide direct patient care with a predetermined outcome. Data gathering and analysis may be shared with other nurses. Furthermore, monitoring agencies, particularly managed care companies, collect data from specific organizations in order to assess overall industry quality. All of these jobs are critical for improving quality and safety.
Assessment 4 focuses on how informatics aids in the monitoring of nursing-sensitive quality indicator data. You’ll create an 810 minute audio (or video) training package to introduce new nurses to a single nursing-sensitive quality metric that’s important to the company. Your presentation will cover how data is collected and shared within the company, as well as the role of nurses in ensuring accurate reporting and high-quality outcomes.
Preparation
You must develop an 810 minute audio training tutorial (with optional video) on the importance of nursing-sensitive quality indicators for new nurses for this evaluation. You must complete the following preparatory exercises in order to be successful in your assessment:
Choose a single nursing-sensitive quality indicator that you believe is critical for a particular type of health-care system.
Conduct independent research on the most up-to-date facts on the nursing-sensitive quality metric of your choice.
Interview a professional colleague or contact who is knowledgeable about quality control and how technology may aid in the collection and reporting of quality indicator data.
You do not need to submit a transcript of your interview, but you should incorporate what you learnt from it into the audio tutorial. Consider the following interview questions:
What has been your experience with data collection and database entry?
What difficulties have you faced?
How does your company communicate quality improvement monitoring outcomes to nursing staff and other members of the health-care system?
What role do bedside nurses and other frontline workers play in data entry? Do staff employees, for example, enter the data into an electronic medical record for extraction? Or is it entered into a different system? What is the efficacy of this procedure?
Examine the video on Informatics and Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicators.
Making a Record of Your Presentation
Complete the following steps to get ready to record the audio for your presentation:
Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions to set up and test your microphone or headset. You only need to utilize the headset if the audio collected by the microphone isn’t clear and good quality.
To check that the audio quality is adequate, practice using the device.
Review the for recording your presentation using Kaltura.

Creating a Presentation: A Guide to Writing and Speaking is a book that teaches you how to make a presentation. This video covers the most important aspects of developing great audiovisual presentations. You can come back to this resource at any time during the creation of your presentation to view the tutorial that is appropriate for you at that time.
Notes:
Other tools might be used to record your tutorial. However, you’ll need to refer to Using Kaltura for instructions on how to upload your audio-recorded instructional into the courseroom, or you’ll need to offer a functioning link that your instructor can access.
You can make a video of your tutorial if you want, but it’s not essential.
Please contact DisabilityServices@Capella.edu to request accommodations if you require the use of assistive technology or other communication techniques to participate in this activity.
Instructions
Assume you are a member of a Quality Improvement Council in any sort of health care system, including acute, ambulatory, home health, managed care, and so on, for this evaluation. Newly hired nurses would benefit from intensive training on the importance of nursing-sensitive quality metrics, according to your Council. The Council wants the training to focus on how this data is gathered and shared within the company. It also wants the training to explain the responsibility of nurses in accurate reporting and high-quality outcomes.
Because of the popularity of audio blogs, the Council believes that a recording is preferable to a printed fact sheet. As a result, new hires can listen to the instruction on their phone or other device at their leisure.
You offer to make an audio training to orient new hires to these issues as a result of this demand. You already know that you’ll need a script to help you record your audio. You also intend to incorporate the information you gained from an interview with an expert on quality monitoring and the use of technology to gather and report quality indicator data into your script.
You decide that your audio tutorial script will include the following topics:
Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicator (NSQI)
What is the NDNQI® and how does it work?
What are nursing-sensitive quality indicators, and what do they mean?
Which quality indicator did you choose to focus on in your tutorial?
Why is it vital to keep track of this quality indicator?
Make careful to consider the influence of this metric on patient safety and quality of care.
Why is it important for new nurses to understand this specific quality indicator when providing patient care?
Data on Quality Indicators is collected and distributed.
How does your organization collect data on this quality measure, according to your interview and other resources?
What methods does the company use to share aggregate data?
What is the responsibility of nurses in ensuring accurate reporting and high-quality outcomes?
Consider the significance of appropriately inputting data about nursing interventions, for example.
After you’ve finished writing your screenplay, practice delivering it a few times before recording it.
Additional Conditions
Deliver a professional, effective audio training on a chosen quality indicator that engages and motivates new nurses to accurately submit quality data in a timely manner.
Audio recording of 810 minutes in length. Upload your recording to the courseroom using Kaltura, or give a functioning URL that your instructor can access.
Cite at least three scholarly and/or authoritative sources in your references.
APA: Include a separate Reference page with the recording that follows APA style and formatting rules. Consult the APA Style and Formatpage on Campus for a refresher on APA.
Save your presentation to your ePortfolio as a Portfolio Prompt. Your final Capstone course will include your ePortfolio submissions.
GUIDE TO SCORING
To learn how your evaluation will be graded, consult the scoring guide.
