This week I was able to discuss about the database project with my co-workers. The current course has significantly promoted my understanding of database systems, their purposes and how the design can be formulated to match the intended use of the system. The skill and competencies gained through the course are not only relevant for academic excellence but also very useful in the real world. Now a days, effective management of information stored in various databases.
What did you apply and how did you apply it?
I applied the knowledge and skills gained from the database design course in my day to day activities. Throughout the week, I have been looking into various systems developed for use in various departments attempting to identify the similarities and differences.
Database designs are in most cases determined the specific purpose of the systems as well as the system users expected to utilize the database. While conducting my daily task, I would constantly be analyzing the type of domains used for various database systems to establish the determining factor that influences the selection of a specific domain.
Were there problems encountered with job assignments or your work environment? What were your efforts towards resolution?
There were a few instances where I experienced difficulties accessing information stored on the database at my workstation. The problem was mainly an authentication issue while trying to log in to the system. System administrators often monitor and lockout unidentified users from accessing the database. This problem was easily resolved after consulting the database administered to verify my authentication credentials.

The course covers issues to do with database design and database management. The type of design adopted for a database influences the system management practices and policies implemented. This weeks’ experience expanded my understanding of how database systems are structured to facilitate the sharing of information to the relevant person only.
