When it comes to connecting with people, human services workers must exercise extreme caution, especially when it comes to being aware of the power dynamic that exists between the worker and the client. In this final discussion forum, you’ll use the course content and the National Organization for Human Services’ ethical standards to identify positive and negative aspects of authority you have in a fictional or real-life human services scenario.
Answer the six statements related to your interpersonal power (p. 311-312) from Chapter 12 of The Interpersonal Communication Book; read the National Organization for Human Services Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals (Links to an external site.) and think about power and influence in human services. Then go over your answers to the six items and think about how much interpersonal influence you think you have.
