Topic: M5 Written Assignment: The Stomach Bug Incident
Paper details:
Your understanding of what you read and studied in this module should be demonstrated in your answers to these questions. Each answer should be well-developed and well-written. Submit your answers as Word or RTF attachments. At a small public school in NYS, over 1/3 of the student body was absent at the start of classes on a Monday morning. Parents of a number of those students called the school to report that their children were sick with what appeared to be a stomach bug. (Many of those children had been together at a sports banquet on Saturday.) By mid-morning, other children, some with fever and all complaining of upset stomachs, had been sent home. Because of the large number of children apparently suffering from the same ailment, the County Health Department was contacted, and the school was closed on Tuesday to allow the janitorial staff to disinfect desks, chairs, bathrooms, etc. Was this a foodborne illness? A stomach bug? What are your thoughts? Explain your reasoning. In a single, well-developed essay (roughly 150-200 words), address the two Critical Thinking questions for Chapter 12 (copied below). Your essay should demonstrate your understanding of the pros and cons of genetically engineered foods. Summarize options and roadblocks to obtaining only non-GMO foods. Suggest possible motivations of industry, growers, and consumers for supporting/opposing GMOs.
