Apple inc. is recognized in the world that it produces the most advance technology mainly computers and cell phones. Apple was established on April 1, 1976, founded by Steve Jobs, Steve wozinak, and Ronald Wayne. They started to sell apple personal kit, which was hand-built by Wonzaik. The first kit was shown to the public at the Homebrew computer Club. Apple was incorporated Jan 3, 1997, by Steve Jobs, Steve wozinak. In fact, Ronald Wayne sold his share to Jobs and Woznaik for $800. By the end of the 1970s, Apple had a stuff of computer designers and production line. The company introduced the ill-fated Apple 2 in May 1980 in an attempt to compete with IBM and Microsoft in the business and corporate computing market. What makes Apple successful is that they are using their own operation system Macintosh (MAC). MAC is a line of personal computer designed, developed, and marketed by Apple. The first Macintosh was introduced by Steve Jobs on Jan 14, 1984. It becomes the first commercially successfully personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface. Since then Apple continued to produce the Mac till today. What is worth mentioning, in 2007 Apple announced the first iPhone. It was a revaluation in the phones market. Since that time, Apple kept producing a new generation of the iPhone to the current day. (Rawlinson, 2016) Currently apple has successfully produced Iphone 7. Now apple enjoys gross income of US$82.72B in 2016. (Apple inc., 2017)
Apple slogan when starting was “Think different.” (R, Apple – Think Different Commercial, 2013) Apple has been using several tactics to help different foundations and charities and Apple places huge importance on its corporate social responsibility. The previous CEO of apple Steve Jobs and his wife secretly gave away millions of their own money to non-profit organizations and charities to help. (Farberov, 2013)
I was attracted to research Apple because my familiarity and knowledge with the company and its sevices. My intereste in Apple started when i used my first iphone which is iphone 3. I use Apple devices in my daily life, iphone, macbook, apple watch. Since i started using Apple’s products i have been very please with it. My admire for the company does not stop with their products and services, it also extends to the role Apple is implementing by placing huge importance on social responsibility, sustainability, and attention to the environment.
In order to meet all the requirements for the assignment assigned, on 7th of Feb, 2017 I conducted an interview with Sadaf Baresh at Metrotown for the purpose of completing profile company assignment for Businss and Society course. In the interview, I asked Sadaf Baresh few questions to briefly acknowledge Apple as company and the company’s policies and practices on Corporate Social Responsibility in a meeting lasted for 40 mins approximately. My purpose is to adequately try to understand how Apple is using and benefiting form Corporate Social Responsibility, along with Apple strategy. Also, the aspects at apple’s workplace which are considered challenging as well as interesting.
Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environmental Initiatives is leading Apple corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and initiatives reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook. According to John Dudovskiy “Apple’s focus on CSR aspect of the business was increased to a considerable extent.” After Steve Jobs passed away. (Dudovskiy, 2016)
This aspect covers Apple’s usage of natural resources and the impact of using aspects might influence earth and its ecosystems. This category is evaluated considering “corporate environmental performance, compliance with environmental regulations mitigation of environmental footprint, leadership and addressing climate change, actions to minimize future risk, implementation of natural resource conservation.” (CSR information for Apple Inc., 2017)

Energy consumption “Apple emerges as the only company that has been awarded with a Clean Energy Index of 100%, according to Greenpeace’s Clicking Clean Report.” (Dudovskiy, 2016)
Water consumption Clean Water program collectively use more than 41 million cubic meters of water per year. (Dudovskiy, 2016)
Recycling Apple offers recycling programs in 99 percent of the countries it operates and the company since 2008. (Dudovskiy, 2016)

employees paricpated in more than 110,312 trips on shared bikes. (Dudovskiy, 2016)

Beside, the impact on the environment resulted by producing products and services, and “ the development of sustainable products, processes and technologies.” (CSR information for Apple Inc., 2017)

Upon completion researching Apple inc., it was not clear how Apple defines corporate social responsibility policy. The online data i collected about apple initiatives that apple value the category enviroment the most looking at the high rate scoring 71 and least categories valued are community along with governance scoring 57. Upon completion of the interview, it was clear to me that Mr. Sadaf was repeating and mentioning suppliers’ facilites is treated fairly, high standards, public safety and a duty to the public, apple is code of ethics
- Big corporations like Apple should be obligated to present their products and service in a condition to serve the community along with corporate social responsibility.
- Big corporations like Apple should treat and approach customers and stakeholders’ needs equally in ordered to be successful in business.
- Big corporations like Apple should have their ethical standards above the expected line by society, employees, shareholders, stakeholders, and customers.
- Big corporations like Apple should pair their stategic objectives along with serving the community and environment.
- Big corporations like Apple should provied time to come up with a mehodolgy for a better communcation with society, which consist of employees, shareholders, stakeholders, customers, and public.
- Big corporations like Apple should observe and evaluate their vision, mission, objectives, ethical standards to be able to minimize the impact on environment and society especially after Steve Jobs passed away.
