Meeting the Needs of the Elderly
Working with the elderly has many facets and is growing more vital as our society ages. Middle-aged persons are faced with tough decisions regarding the care of older family members, frequently with the extra difficulties of health and mobility constraints. Furthermore, towns must consider how to address the requirements of senior populations, which may include meal delivery to their homes, medical care, and transportation.
For this week’s Discussion, you’ll look at the needs of the elderly in your community to see what social work interventions might be able to aid them. Consider the older population in your community’s cultural backgrounds and other diversity-related features, as these will influence the solutions you choose.
With the following considerations in mind:
By Day 4, you should have a description of a need among your community’s elderly. Then, suggest a strategy for how a social work program or intervention could address this need. (Assume that your employer agrees that this service is needed and is giving you the time you need to do this task because this plan of action may be outside your normal obligations as a clinical social worker.) Include the intervention’s aim (i.e., what the intervention will achieve) and three components of the intervention, together with an explanation of how they serve this goal, in your plan of action.
