The temperature is 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit, the pulse is 78, and the respirations are 18 per minute. HEENT is normal, with the exception of a reddish posterior pharynx and white exudate on 3+ enlarged tonsils. Anterior and posterior cervical adenopathy are both positive. An in-office rapid strep test came back positive. His primary care physician prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg po q 12 hours x 10 days, disp #20. When he went home, he took the first capsule and instantly experienced swelling of his tongue and lips, as well as difficulties breathing and audible wheezing. He was rushed to the hospital after dialing 911 and receiving emergency treatment for his allergic response.
