Instructions:
Observe mothers and fathers with their young children (minimum of three families, one hour observations for each ). Notate your findings and draw a conclusion about how parents influence their children’s sex roles. Students will inform class audience on background information, including statistics or problem/research statement (this will depend on your project choice). Introduction, theoretical approaches, research, and diagnosis/explanation of current social condition. The presentation will end with the most important lesson students learned from the project and a call to action. The 40 total points are defined in the Course Project Presentation Rubric.
1. Guidelines and Suggestions Your presentation should include the following: a brief introduction (2 minutes) a main body (4 minutes) of theoretical ideas, statistics, and diagnosis To do so, they must be able to focus on the theoretical analysis and not be distracted by overly complex or difficult-to-read graphics. If you made an original art piece, you can photograph it from various angles. Students can structure their presentations using Powerpoint. The ASM’s “Meeting Site Instructions to Speakers” have some great power point ideas.
First, carefully select graphics to support the spoken word. Your slides should help your audience understand your message by clarifying ideas, emphasizing key points, and illustrating relationships. To stay within the 8-minute timeframe, create 5-7 slides max.
Keep your visuals relevant and simple.
Text and title frames should be concise.
Make specific references to your slides during your talk.
Avoid repeating yourself on a series of slides.
2. The Outline Format your outline as an outline (not an essay). Uploaded here the day before your presentation. Outline your presentation and include a strong conclusion that includes your most important take away and possibilities for hope and social action.
All statistics and research should be scholarly and provide compelling evidence to support theoretic ideas. A reference page should have at least four sources (and or in powerpoint slide). Students must cite using APA style. See PLNU’s libguide for APA formatting.Links to external site.
A parent shopping with their children, where the mother picks an outfit for her son or the father picks an outfit for his daughter, to see how the child reacts, how they internalize the parent’s choice. How do kids internalize this male/female role? I wonder how fathers treat their sons versus daughters. How does a mother talk to a son and how does it differ from a father?
For example, when dads talk to their sons, they want them to be tough, but it’s not the same when they talk to their daughters. I’d like to observe different cultures’ families and gender roles.
I need a powerpoint and notes for each slide.
