Instructions:
1.Background and Description of the Assignment
To complete this assignment successfully, you must conduct research on the current project manager job market and locate three current job posts. One of the job openings should be for a program or portfolio manager at the very least. You’ll also need to go over Chapter 3 of the PMBOK and make a list (checklist) of PMI’s recommended traits for project managers. After that, you’ll compare the list you made with the job listings you found to determine whether there’s a match between the PMI traits and the attributes that industry is searching for. After that, you’ll write a summary of your findings.
2.Requirements at a High Level
Job Postings: You’ll need to find three current job postings for project management positions. At the very least, you should have one opening for a Program or Portfolio Manager. The title of the post might be Project Manager as long as the job description specifies that the responsibilities include program or portfolio management.
Attribute List for Project Managers: Determine the attributes of a project manager as stated in Chapter 3 of the PMBOK. Make a list of the characteristics and rank them as “Must Have,” “Should Have,” and “Nice to Have.” Explain why you put each attribute in its respective category.
Position Summaries: You should have three for each job ad; compare the text of the posting to the checklist you generated. Summarize each job posting by comparing the employer’s requirements with PMI’s list of desirable characteristics.
In conclusion: Give a general overview of your findings. Is PMI up to par with industry standards? Why do you think that is? What are the areas where industry and PMI are on the same page?
3.Deliverables
A single MS Word document with a “Title Page,” a “Table of Contents” generated by Word, your “Job Postings,” an ordered “Project Managers Attribute List” with specifics for each attribute, your “Position Summaries,” and an “Overall Summary”
