Scientific Inquiry Hypothesis Essay Assignment
Description
Part 4: The final part of this assignment involves creation of new information. Here you will take all of your analytical skills in research to analyze what you already know on a topic and create a new direction to pursue. This is called a hypothesis.
Based upon the three FACTS you have written (in Part 2), write a hypothesis that is unique to these FACTS but relies on the FACTS that you developed from your literature review. The unique aspect of your hypothesis must be due to an altered independent or dependent variable (in other words, do not just repeat a study you read about in a different population).
A good hypothesis should follow the same format as a FACT and include an outcome, context, and sample. Write your hypothesis to explicitly state I hypothesize that and then formulate and write a paragraph that defends your hypothesis based on the three FACTS and summary table you developed.
Your Part 4 document must include the following:
Your three FACTS plus the firstauthorlastname, year of publication. This can be copied directly from Part 2 of the assignment. (If you made modifications based upon instructor feedback to Part 2, include the new version).
A statement of your hypothesis (again, written in the format of a FACT to include outcome, context, and sample).
A paragraph that supports your hypothesis. It must include what is known about your topic (as you learned from your three or five FACTS) and what is not known, as well as a statement about how your hypothesis differs from what is already known about this topic. Any time you provide information from one of your facts, write the authors last name and year published in parentheses at the end of that sentence. You must use all three FACTS at least once to support the various components of your hypothesis. An example of a hypothesis is posted on Canvas. Please save this single Word document as lastname(s)_hypothesis when submitting to Canvas (in Hypothesis Assignment Part 4). Failure to submit in a readable file will result in a 10% deduction from your Part 4 grade.
Part 4 is due 11/19 by 1pm. Part 4 is worth 50 points.
