Instructions:
This speech is an opportunity for you to express yourself on a topic that either worries you or about which you are enthusiastic. Consider this an opportunity to get on your’soapbox’ and speak out about an issue in our world that you believe needs to be addressed. You may also tie this in with any of your prior speeches or use it to practice ideas for Speech #5.
This presentation does not require any extra research, but please do not turn it into a diatribe.
Requirements
Your speech should be between two and three minutes long. If you go above 3 minutes, I’ll have to cut you off.
Use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence to structure your presentation (Attention, Need, Satisfaction, (Links to an external site.) Visualization, and Action (Links to an external site.)). You will include a brief description of these stages in your submission. You can also use Refutation as an organizational style if your issue is contentious. (This is a link to another website.)
Please avoid reading verbatim from your notes; your delivery should be spontaneous.
One oral citation should be included in the speech.
For this presentation, visual aids are prohibited: Rely completely on your oratory skills and the impact of your words.
I’m only grading this speech on how well it was delivered, so consider this a brief break before your next speech. You will obtain credit for this assignment if you make an attempt to present your ideas and don’t go too much under or over your time limit.
Only your outline, which follows Monroe’s Motivated Sequence or Refutation pattern, is required.
This is also where I’ll keep track of your Soapbox Speech’s score.
