Description
Assignment 2 – Gender Development Theory Paper (15%)
Please carefully read ALL the instructions below AND the grading rubric before constructing your Gender-Development Theory paper.
Everyone must use the integrated Turnitin tool for the gender development theory paper.
The use of Turnitin in this class is different than how you may have used it in the past, in that there is no need to create a separate account. You only need to submit your assignment within the classroom. Shortly after you submit your assignment you will receive helpful feedback to improve your writing from within the Turnitin software tool. Work on any improvements before submitting it on the due date.
You must submit your paper first to Turnitin and after working on any improvements, submit it to the assignment folder by 11:59 pm EST on Tuesday of Week 3.
Please carefully read ALL the instructions below before constructing your Gender-Development Theory paper.
This assignment does NOT require an introduction or a conclusion. Begin with the Explanation section and conclude with the Critique section.
Your Tasks
You are required to further research one gender theory discussed in Module 2’s commentary or the text and submit a 1 1/2 page paper (specifically, of 900-1,800 words in length) that:
(1) clearly explains the theory using at least two scholarly, current sources (without referencing the Weekly Learning Resources or the modules – go to the Weekly Learning Resources and the module/commentary to gain a basic understanding of the theory, but use only outside sources for the paper),
AND
(2) critiques the theory (identifies strengths AND weaknesses)
You may select any of the following theories (choose only one):
biological,
identification theory,
social learning theory,
cognitive development theory,
Gilligan’s gender identity development theory (aka moral voices theory).
gender similarities hypothesis,
gender schema theory
Tannen’s gender style theory/genderlect,
muted group theory,
standpoint theory,
psychodynamic,
or
sociobiological perspective.
Explanation of the Gender-Development Theory Section
The explanation of the gender development theory section of your submission should be 1 full page/specifically 600 (minimum) – 1,200 words (single spaced). This section should be based solely on scholarly sources (NOT your personal opinion). Direct quotations should be used sparingly and appropriately cited using APA format (direct quotations and author/s, year, page number). Most of the information in this section should be paraphrased with proper APA in-text citations.
Note that the minimum number of sources required is two; I would suggest using more (3-5). Stronger submission will utilize several scholarly sources and exceed the minimum page requirement. Do not cite the modules/commentary. Use only outside (researched), current, scholarly sources. Make sure that your explanation directly and explicitly relates to gender development.
You may NOT use Wikipedia as one of your sources for this paper or any other assignments this semester.
The Critique of the Gender-Development Theory Section
The critique section of your submission should be 1/2 of a page in length -specifically 300 (minimum) -600 words. This section should identify BOTH strengths and weaknesses and must be based on BOTH scholarly sources as well as your personal opinion. Be sure to clearly differentiate between your personal opinion and those found in your sources (use proper in-text citations).
Format Expectations
This assignment must:
be typed using a 12-point Times New Roman font
be single-spaced (nothing should be double spaced)
have one-inch margins on all sides

use the American Psychological Association (APA) format for citations (both in-text and reference/bibliography list)
be error-free (no typos, grammatical errors, etc.)
contain the following specific headings/subheadings for each section:
