Sonogram Law in Texas Political Cartoons
1st: Here is a political cartoon that you are to examine (<—click on it). EXPLAIN this cartoon in detail: a) what is the controversy or explain what is the issue being depicted (don’t explain what I can already see in the cartoon, explain the issue) b) who do you think is the audience for this cartoon? What message is the cartoonist trying to send? c) What is the purpose of political cartoons in general? RESEARCH the issues of the political cartoon, NO personal opinion or conjecture.
2nd: find & add YOUR OWN TEXAS political cartoon (the cartoon must show an issue related to Texas or at least explain how the cartoon’s issue is related to Texas). Google “Texas political cartoons”. Find a cartoon that is provocative & looks at a controversial issue in Texas —please do not tell me what’s in the cartoon, as I can “see” it so I don’t need the obvious explanation of what is in it. You are to a) explain the issue that the cartoon depicts, b) why is it controversial & c) update on the issue now or any other important info.
When adding YOUR political cartoon please copy & paste your cartoon onto your DB answer so that I can see it — but it is imperative to add a link as well so that if for some reason I cannot see it I can click on it. MUST DO BOTH: Add a picture AND a link. It needs to be easy for me & students to be able to find your cartoon that you added & are discussing.
If I cannot find or see the cartoon or the link then it’s points off grade (see syllabus). You MUST ALSO include the cartoon source information in your bibliography or points deducted because you are copying it from an outside source. ANY TIME you copy something it must be documented.
To copy & paste your cartoon – go to your cartoon, hit the right click on your mouse, then go to “Copy Image”, then come back to DB & right click again to “Paste” the image.
3rd: At the end of your DB give 2 questions you have that you’d like to see another student RESPOND to base on what you wrote in your DB. EVERY student MUST end their DB answer (NOT COUNTED TOWARDS THE MIN WORD COUNT) with two questions that they want another student to address in a 2nd thread/response.
AFTER you’ve done the three things above each student must do a 2nd thread/response where you must copy the two questions you are answering from another student. Put the 2 questions you are answering at the top of the response (-5 pts if missing 2 questions you’re answering). MUST put the student’s first name in the first line of the response (-5 pts if missing first name of student you’re responding to). The Questions DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS MIN. WORD COUNT FOR EITHER THE ANSWER OR RESPONSE THREAD.
SEE SYLLABUS for a breakdown of the format. DO NOT NUMBER/LETTER, HAVE TITLES, OR HAVE QUESTIONS IN THE POST – you must answer this as you would any research paper.
Make sure to read the syllabus for all the requirements for DB’s. PLAGIARISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. MINIMUM OF 2 SOURCES REQ’D, NO WIKIPEDIA. BIBLIOGRAPHY IN MLA FORMAT REQ’D & CITATIONS IN MLA FORMAT REQ’D. You may use easybib.com for help.
