Determining The Least Restrictive Environment (SPD510)
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that special education children receive a free and adequate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment possible (LRE). Special education instructors are among the decision-makers who determine what educational setting is most appropriate and least restrictive for each kid for whom an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is created. It is critical for special education teachers to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type of placement setting, as well as how to provide a personalized, successful education for students with disabilities.
Graphic Organizer (Part 1)
Make a graphic organizer with five different placement settings both inside and outside of the school. Describe how each placement setting can assist kids with mild to moderate impairments in each setting. Include the potential advantages and disadvantages of each placement option.
2nd Part: Essay
Write a 1,000-1,250-word essay on the IDEA’s FAPE provision. Discuss how the LRE should be acceptable in fulfilling student needs and adhering to legal criteria based on FAPE. Discuss the criteria that should be considered when determining the proper placement of students with disabilities in the LRE to ensure that they get a free and appropriate public education. Discuss how a student’s requirements and amount of support might be best met by moving through a continuum of placements (e.g., inclusion, resource, self-contained).
At least three scholarly resources should be used to back up your findings.
Prepare this work in accordance with the APA Style Guide, which may be found in the Student Success Center. It is not necessary to submit an abstract.
