Technology Implementation Role of Health Care Managers Discussion
1.What is the role of the health care manager in the implementation of technology? Provide examples.
2.How can health care managers ensure that new technology implementation and use is appropriately communicated to staff and patients?
ALSO RESPOND TO BELOW IN ABOUT 175 WORDS:
A health care managers role in the implementation of technology starts long before the technology is delivered and ready to be used. Health care managers must consider costs, benefits, facility and employee needs, modality trends and impact on patient care and outcomes before any new technology can be implemented.
Once all of these things have been considered and a new technology has been decided on a health care manager must plan for any possible complications that may occur during the implementation process. The impact on and need for staffing, training, information technology assistance, patient scheduling, biomedical equipment clearance all must be taken into consideration.
Failure to do so could cause employee frustration and burn out, reduced usage or benefit from the new technology, and could possibly involve loss of accreditation or fines if patient safety and privacy are not protected. It is not necessary for a health care manager to be an expert on all new technology that is implemented. I have often been on teams where management did not know the first thing about how to use the new system or software that was being installed.
They were, however, responsible for ensuring that employees had the training they needed, patient care was minimally impacted, network connectivity and security measures were taken care of, new equipment was properly cleared through the biomedical department and that all of this happened in an expected time frame.
