The Gospel of Luke
Luke is traditionally accredited to writing this Gospel along with the Book of Acts. According to Black, Luke becomes the best choice for the author of the book (p. 169). He was a Gentile Christian, a physician (Col. 4:414) and Paul’s traveling companion during his mission trips. “He was known to be an accurate historian with an excellent use of Greek (p. 169).” “He intended that his Gospel and Acts serve as a single volume dealing with the beginning and growth of the early church” (p. 169).
This is the longest single book of the New Testament and if adding the contents from Acts, Luke can be accredited with more than half New Testament content (Black, p.169).
During the writer’s introductory statement of this book, he provides insight on the research methodology that he used to create the account of this synoptic book. He mentioned that he carefully investigated everything from the beginning in order to write an orderly account so that reader may know the certainty of the things they have been taught (Luke 1:3).
