Discussion 1: The Organization of the Future
Throughout this course, you have engaged in several facets of the change process. As you’ve probably realized, change can often run into unexpected obstacles, resistance, or failing momentum. As a change agent in your organization, this Discussion will give you a chance to explore some of those obstacles and how you might craft a strategy to manage them.
Take a moment and go back to the work you did on your Change Plan in Week 3. Examine the description of your organization “5 years into the future.” Consider the importance of planning and leadership as change is planned for and implemented. As you reflect on your description, think about how your organization would function if your suggested changes were implemented.
DAY 3
Post a cohesive response based on your analysis of the Learning Resources and your professional experience. Be sure to discuss the following:
Now that you have worked through Kotter’s eight-stage process to develop your Change Plan, evaluate the effectiveness of your vision. Do you believe it to be a viable vision? What changes would you make to that vision?
Discuss how your organization or community will look different after the change has been implemented. Discuss the factors that may influence your change management plan. How will these factor influence your ability to implement your change vision?
Outline the characteristics you possess to effectively lead and manage change. Assess how prepared you are to be an effective change manager and leader.
Evaluate the impact your change management skills and characteristics had on the organization or community. Discuss how these skills and characteristics can help you become an agent for social change.
Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week’s Learning Resources as well as other credible resources you have read or to what you have observed and experienced.
General Guidance: Your original post, due by Day 3, will typically be 3 or 4 paragraphs in length, as a general expectation/estimate. Refer to the Week 8 Discussion 1 Rubric for grading elements and criteria. Your instructor will use the rubric to assess your work.
Read a selection of your peers’ postings.
BY DAY 5
Respond to at least two of your peers’ postings in one or more of the following ways:
Compare the characteristics you selected with those your colleague chose and what your comparison teaches you about effectively leading or managing transformational change.
Offer examples of a leader who possesses the characteristics your colleague identified and explain how the leaders employed the characteristic to effect change.
Offer insights about how your colleague could further hone his or her skills to continue to develop as a change master and why those skills might be important.
Examine how your colleague plans to use the knowledge and skills from the course to become an agent for social change and offer additional insights to your colleague that will further his or her ability to lead positive social change.
Suggest a social change vision that you and your colleague might share and how you might collaborate beyond this course to bring that vision to life
Discussion 2: Leading Positive Change
In this Discussion, you will reflect on the video Six Keys to Leading Positive Change by Rosabeth Moss Kanter. Consider the impact of the changes you are attempting to implement and how the video may help you achieve success. Of the six keys Kanter discusses, which do you believe will influence your ability to implement change effectively? Are there additional keys to success you believe are critical to change management that Kanter does not discuss?
DAY 5
Post a cohesive response based on your analysis of the Learning Resources and your professional experience. Be sure to discuss the following:
Based on what you have learned in this course and the research you have done; evaluate the most important characteristics you think are most likely found in successful and effective leaders and managers of transformational change.
Using Kanter’s “Six Keys to Leading Positive Change,” analyze at least two that are most important for you to hone to become a change master, and explain how those will impact your success.
Assess how you will use the knowledge and skills gained in this class to become an agent of social change in alignment with Walden’s mission?
Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week’s Learning Resources as well as other credible resources you have read or to what you have observed and experienced. General Guidance: Your original post, due by Day 5, will typically be 3 or 4 paragraphs in length, as a general expectation/estimate. Refer to the Week 8 Discussion 2 Rubric for grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use the rubric to assess your work. Read a selection of your peers’ postings.
BY DAY 7
Respond to at least two of your peers’ postings in one or more of the following ways:
Compare your analysis of Kanter’s Six Keys to your peer’s analysis. Are there any elements of your peer’s analysis you hadn’t thought of? What additional thoughts can you add to their analysis for consideration?
Looking at your peer’s list of characteristics, what characteristics most resonated with you? Do you agree with the list they have outlined? Do you think they are missing any key characteristics from their list?
