Description
Peer-reviewed scientific journals must account for four of the sources.
(250-300 words) Introduction (10 marks)
You’ll want to start with some facts that will persuade the reader that your topic is worth discussing. Include the following:
o What is Mars and where is it?
o Why are we looking for life on Mars rather than other planets?
You’ll need to provide a definition for the term “life.”
Give some historical context – did anyone assume there was life on Mars at any point? Why do you think that is?
What is the current state of mind?
Statement of Purpose (this could be a subheading under Introduction or a separate heading)
paragraph): a sentence or two describing the scope of the report.
Can Life Exist on Mars? (between 400 and 600 words) (20 points)
Describe at least two of the conditions that a planet must meet in order to support (and sustain) life (e.g. water, etc.). Please keep in mind that liquid water and the temperatures at which water becomes liquid are the same thing.
Discuss TWO pieces of evidence that Mars satisfies (or satisfies at some point) some of these requirements (in detail). Note that I’m not looking for proof of life; rather, I’m looking for proof that there was a suitable environment in which life could thrive. Explain each piece of evidence you’ve chosen:
o What did you notice? (for example, ice crystals)
o How did you notice it? (Satellite images, for example)
o What does the proof show? (For example, Mars has water.)
Is it possible that Mars once had the appropriate conditions to support life? So, how about now?
Life is still being sought (500-700 words) (25 points)
You proved (hopefully) that there is a chance that life can/could exist on Mars in the preceding section (e.g. Mars has water). This section will go through how we look for life on Mars. Please seek for clarification on the Forums if you are unsure about the differences between these two parts.
o Where have we been seeking for evidence of LIFE on Mars? o Discuss (in detail) TWO of the prior tactics utilized to locate evidence of LIFE on Mars. (For example, parts of the planet, meteorites, and so on.)
o What exactly were we looking for? (fossils, footprints, methane, isotopes, etc.)
o What did you notice?
o What has worked and what has failed, and does failure imply that there is no life on Mars?
What are Perseverance’s strategies and technology for searching for life on Mars?
What would the importance be if we were to succeed? Try to explain why we’re sending.
Perseverance.
Conclusions (maximum of 150 words) (5 marks)
This is a summary of the report’s most important sections; no new information or personal comments should be included.

Introduction
45-41 points The background and significance of the problem and a clear statement of the research purpose is provided. The search history is mentioned. |
Literature Support 91-84 points The background and significance of the problem and a clear statement of the research purpose is provided. The search history is mentioned. |
Methodology 58-53 points Content is well-organized with headings for each slide and bulleted lists to group related material as needed. Use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. to enhance readability and presentation content is excellent. Length requirements of 10 slides/pages or less is met. |

Average Score 50-85% |
40-38 points More depth/detail for the background and significance is needed, or the research detail is not clear. No search history information is provided. |
83-76 points Review of relevant theoretical literature is evident, but there is little integration of studies into concepts related to problem. Review is partially focused and organized. Supporting and opposing research are included. Summary of information presented is included. Conclusion may not contain a biblical integration. |
52-49 points Content is somewhat organized, but no structure is apparent. The use of font, color, graphics, effects, etc. is occasionally detracting to the presentation content. Length requirements may not be met. |
