Thinking Critically
Review your definition of critical thinking from your first journal entry. Would you change your definition of critical thinking after spending eight weeks studying it? If so, how and why did you do it? If not if it was perfect what parts of the text did your definition best reflect?
The Crux of the Issue
Remember how you discussed the authors’ claim that the concepts in Chapters 12, 13, and 14 were “the heart of the matter” in your first journal entry? After you’ve gone over those chapters again, answer the following question: Why do you think the authors think these concepts are important to critical thinking?
Making Ethical Decisions
According to the lecture, an argument is worthless unless it has a “strong and reasoned ethical base.” Do you think ethics is an important part of a good argument? If so, why do you think that is? Why not, if not?
Looking Ahead
Do you think you’ve learned everything there is to know about critical thinking or is it something you’ll have to work on for the rest of your life? Give an explanation for your response.
