Weight Management Assignment Project
Due: Apr 23, 2019 at 11:59 PM
Start by choosing a client, such as a friend or family member who wants to gain or lose weight thought physical activity and a healthy eating plan.
Please follow these instructions:
Determine client’s current calorie needs. Use Harris-Benedict or Mifflin formula. Show your work.
Determine the average caloric intake needed to help the client reach weight goal. Be realistic regarding the calorie difference your client can tolerate from diet and the difference that he/she can produce from physical activity. Use the information in our textbook, specifically information on pages 488-490 and Table 11.3: “Approximate number of days to lose weight for a given caloric deficit”. Show your work.
Determine the percentage calorie change from diet and from exercise. When in doubt, split the difference. Show your work.
Subtract dietary calorie deficit from total caloric needs for weight loss or add the calorie difference for weight gain. This will give you your goal kcal level per day. Show your work, then round to the nearest thousand for average intake (for example, if the answer you determine from the formula was 1,923, then round to an average of 1,900 calories a day).
This is where the real fun begins!
Now you must think in terms of real food. Use the information on pages 44-45 in our text book and/or go to MyPlate Plan (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and scroll to the bottom of that page where the meal plans for different calorie levels are listed for each age group. This will give you the number of servings from each food group for that kcal level that is recommended and a sample menu. If your average calorie intake is not listed use an average for each food group for the calorie intake suggestion below and the intake above (for example, if I calculated my client needed an average of 1,900 calories a day, I would average the food groups from the 1,800 meal plan and the 2,000 meal plan)
Use the sample menu as a guide to writing your own meal plan for your client. Write a 400-600 word synopsis on recommendations that you would give the client and include the meal plan that you have formulated. Include how many servings of the fruit group, vegetable group, grain group, protein group, and dairy group your client should consume each day. Include example products from each food group. Also include the average amount of calories per day you plan for your client to use in physical activity. Include a statement on the length of time you think it will take for your client to reach his or her goal weight. Expand your meal plan write up with information from chapters in our textbook, specifically Chapters 2, 10, 11 and/or 12.
