Instructions:
NTSB Accident assignment due Tuesday, Feb. 1st via dropbox (by 11:59pm)
Directions: Go to the NTSB website and find one accident for each of the following categories (a total of 5 separate accidents):
1. Fatigue
2. Thunderstorms
3. Icing Conditions
4. Runway issues
5. Poor Crew Resource Management (CRM)—issues such as teamwork, communication, coordination, lack of resources, etc.
**For each accident, address the following TWO areas:
1. Using Microsoft Word, provide a summary of the accident. Do not copy/paste the NTSB report. Just write 1-2 paragraphs on the details of the accident.
2. Discuss how you feel this could have been prevented.
3. Include the NTSB number, date of accident, aircraft type, etc.
Submit the word document in D2L under the folder labeled “NTSB accident assignment” by Tuesday, Feb. 1st via dropbox (by 11:59pm). There are several ways to access the NTSB database as they updated their website recently. Here is one option: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/query-builder. Here is a second option for the simple search: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search .
Be sure to read factual reports (not preliminary) and find accidents (not incidents).
I usually google “airplane accidents due to pilot fatigue”, then get the NTSB ID number and enter that in NTSB website.
