The Era Of Social Media Essay
Essay #4 Peer Review Questions
Your Name: Caycee Tomlinson
Writer you are reviewing: Kevin Whittaker
1) Below, copy and paste what you believe the argumentative thesis statement to be.
Rate the strength of the thesis from 1-10 (ten being the highest rating) and share with him or her why the rating was given.
Consider these questions in your rating:
- Does the thesis connect to the prompt of an intersection between human behavior and technology?
- Does the thesis argue for something?
- Is the thesis clear, so that the reader understands exactly what is being argued?
My Response: “Social media users share information through platforms that allow the development of virtual relationships instead of personal or face-to-face relationships through messaging, tweeting, and following which creates the intersection of human behavior and technology.” I feel like the thesis statement connects to the prompt, but I feel like the argument should be stressed more in this particular sentence.
2) What part of the draft interests you? Why?
My Response: “On a personal note, in the era of social media, based on the social media use of family and friends, I believe that forms of addictive behavior may cause mental and emotional dependence.” I think this point is very interesting, you should expand more on this!
3) Where do you feel you would like more detail or explanation? Where do you need less?
My Response: In your thesis statement you write about development of virtual relationships instead of face-to-face, but there’s not much about this point in the paper. Personally I think you stating “social media platoforms intersect human behavior and technology…” is a little repetitive.
4) Do you find any parts unclear, confusing, or undeveloped? Please specifically indicate which parts.
My Response: Like I said the thesis statement talks about online relationships over face-to-face so maybe talking more about social isolation or something along those lines?
5) Copy and paste or specifically indicate at least one sentence that is confusing to you because of its grammar and flow – even if you aren’t sure what the error is. Please explain why you have marked this sentence as one that needs improvement.
My Response: The grammar flow is great in this paper, aside from repetitiveness.
6) Ask your classmate one question you have about the essay.
My Response: Have you found any articles showing statistics on how many people prefer virtual relationships over face-toface? That might be an interesting addition to your paper to add more facts.
