Telecommuting refers to the method of employment whereby the workers or those employed are allowed and expected to perform their duties or their assigned tasks from their houses or homes. They utilize the internet and emails to pass information and coordinate with the other workers in the office or workplaces to ensure that they are updated on how to carry out different tasks. As a result of innovation which has led to introduction of new technologies, working from home has turned out to be among the most productive techniques utilized in the achievement of the set goals and objectives in most organizations and companies. Telecommuting would only be in need of a worker in the work place when most necessary. On the contrary, with the proper planning in which a worker would only be given the chance to telecommute at least once a week, then it is less likely that the employees will be required in the office during that specific day. For example, in cases whereby the organization holds weekly meetings a worker can still attend it via video conferencing. Likewise, the availability of video conferencing has also made it easy for workers to attend to office duties while at the comfort of their houses (Sroka, 2018). This offers the workers a comfortable chance to work on their assigned tasks.
Currently, several organizations are adopting telecommuting. As a result of this, workers and also companies are benefitting from work from home via telecommuting especially when need arises. Therefore, with the use of ethos, logos and pathos the essay will attempt to set aside personal views and address the audience about telecommuting and its advantages to workers as well as companies. Though, telecommuting may not fit for some business models, there are several business models that can greatly benefit from telecommuting. Therefore, through the use of logos it is possible to argue logically with reliable and accountable evidence to back up the claim (Nicklin, Cerasoli, & Dydyn, 2016). As a result of that, the essay will look deep into the issue or argument as to why employees should be allowed to telecommute one day per week.
Telecommuting has both positive and negative impacts on both workers and the companies in which it is applied. Despite the demerits associated with it, it still proves to be a great technique for the firm to cut across costs and enhance the capability of workers to achieve the firm’s goals. This mode provides the workers with adequate benefits that make it easy for them to be able to realize the set objectives and goals. Working from home would minimize the expenses incurred by the workers for instance expenses used on transport hence giving the employees morale to perform their duties perfectly as they gear towards achieving the company’s goals and objectives. A good number of workers have been bringing on board complains that their wages and salaries are not enough and adequate to meet their needs for example paying their bills, buying food, paying their rent and having some left for luxury. Additionally, by looking at the profits that the company makes or is able to make, it could be challenging to raise salaries of such workers (Mansour, 2016). This could only end maximizing the funds needed for the company to be able to run its activities smoothly and with time the organization may not be able to pay its debts.
As a result of this, telecommuting will be a great opportunity for the organization to help in cutting the money spend by the workers while trying to give the best to the organization. This technique will also benefit the organization since the workers will all be focused on achieving their work objectives and goals. The workers will also feel motivated and know that the organization understands what they go through and that the organization is doing something about that. Some workers have been considering quitting their jobs, and therefore, this technique can save the organization a lot of expenses associated with new recruitments to replace those who resign from their duties. Many organizations have been able to save a substantial amount of resources through retaining their workers. Cutting the costs that they use on transport will a great method of making sure that workers do not resign. Hence, the management should consider the provision of this offer (Bernardino, 2017). Workers should therefore be offered a day every week to work from home.
Moreover, working from home would relieve the workers from the offices or the work places pressure therefore, enabling them to be more productive and produce more desirable resources as compared to when they undertake their tasks while in the offices. In some situations, supervision at work can put more a lot of pressure on the workers. As a result of this, allowing the workers to telecommute will give them more freedom to enable them focus on their duties and projects without much pressure from their managers or supervisors. This could lead to an increase in production of about 5% when compared to an instance whereby workers do not work from home. Also, the workers have also been making the offices and the working environment, uncomfortable and unconducive as they strive to solve unending conflicts and misunderstandings among themselves. Thus, working from home would also provide the workers with a comfortable and conducive work place or environment to focus on any assigned task that they are working on. Working under pressure could making the workers come up projects which will not produce desirable results that could help the organization to achieve the set goals. The workers could also confuse the steps expected to be followed while working on the projects (Asgari, & Jin, 2015). Because of that the management should think of allowing the workers to telecommute at least once in a week to allow them to relax their minds and be relieved from pressure from their supervisors.
Nevertheless, working from home has proven to produce a mobile flexible labor force, which has the capacity to help companies reduce their overhead costs. While majority of the employees who work from in the United States live in urban areas, working from home makes it easy for individuals who live in remote locations to stay employed. Those who work from home value having control over their time and space, but they must balance perceived autonomy with ongoing desires of accomplishing exceeding desires so that the viability and workability of telecommuting practices can be demonstrated (Zia, & Bilal, 2017). This will ensure that activities in the company run smoothly and that telecommuters work effectively and efficiently.
Finally, having seen the benefits that telecommuting has on both the employees and the organizations, the managers should not worry on whether to legalize it or not. This is because its pros outweigh its cons. Therefore, when thinking on a way which can improve productivity in the organization and at the same time motivating the employees, Organizations should allow their workers to work from home at least once in a week since it will aid in increasing employee’s productivity, minimizing business overheads, minimizing expenditures and also offering a better working environment.
