Evidence Based Practice in Health Discussion Response
please respond to the following discussion post as a peer making a comment.A physician provides education to patients, families, and other health care staff as it relates to the patient’s condition, diagnosis, and treatment. The physician will offer resources with information and research that patients can use to make informed decisions about their treatment plan. Therefore, their role is important when it comes to implementing an evidence-based practice change (Physician Role, 2022). However, if a physician was resistant to an evidence-based practice change in our facility, I would set up a meeting with the physician to go over the reasons why they are resistant to change. I would then try to adjust the new changes to best fit the physician’s needs while putting the health care facility, health care staff, and patients in mind. I would also continue to remind the physician that the new changes are implemented to overall improve patient outcomes in the clinical setting.
The role of a patient is important in a health care organization because they help providers make an accurate diagnosis and co-creating an optimal treatment plan. Patients can also help make their health care experience safer by becoming active, involved, and informed members of the health care team. However, if a patient was resistant to an evidence-based practice change in our facility, I would want to ensure that their opinions and voices are still being heard. I would then provide the patients with the information on why the change is happening and will be open to receiving feedback from them on how they think we can improve.
A nurse is a caregiver for patients and helps to manage physical needs, prevent illness, and treat health conditions. Like a physician, their role is essential when it comes to implementing an evidence-based practice change because they are the ones who will be performing these changes when working with patients. However, if a nurse was resistant to an evidence-based practice change in our facility, I would set up a meeting with the nurse to go over the reasons why they are resistant to change. I would then communicate the new changes and why they are important and necessary to overall improve patient outcomes.
Health care administrators are responsible for facilitating patient care. They plan, direct, and coordinate services so that doctors, patients, insurance providers, and medical facilities stay on the same page throughout treatment (ECPI University, 2020). However, if a health care administrator was resistant to an evidence-based practice change in our facility, I would set up a meeting with the nurse to go over the reasons why they are resistant to change. I would then communicate how new changes benefit the health care organization. During this, I would discuss the benefits of budget, supplies, staffing, and patient outcomes that will occur with the new implementations.
The role of a CEO in the health care industry requires the executive who holds the position to ensure that almost every aspect of the health care facilities under their care perform efficiently while ensuring that all employees have the equipment and resources, they need to deliver the best quality patient (Price, 2019). However, if the CEO was resistant to an evidence-based practice change in our facility, I would set up a meeting with the CEO and other team members to discuss why they don’t approve of the changes. I would then show the CEO statistical data of the clinical and administrative areas and have other staff members explain how the new changes are necessary to improve patient outcomes and overall outcomes of the health care organization.
Overall, I would communicate the who, what, where, why, and how of the change. I would start with an overview of the strategic reasons for the change. I would then communicate the vision of what’s going to happen, how individuals will be involved, what is expected from them and their team, and why it is important to the practice and the patients (Gesme & Wiseman, 2018).
