A Company’s Quality Improvement Process
You will consider the following process in a product packaging operation for this discussion: A pallet of boxed product is delivered from the packaging line every 15-20 minutes. One by one, a team member removes individual product boxes off a pallet. He puts them in a carton after running them through a scanner to ensure he has the correct goods for the job. Overall, the team member’s work speed is sufficient to match the current production needs. The scanner’s computer, however, fails two or three times every minute, requiring him to pause and interact with the keyboard to clear the error and resume the software. When this occurs, the team member is visibly irritated. Make sure to address the following in your first post in the discussion forum:
How would you deal with this problem if you were a management at this company? Identify the issue, explain your role in resolving it, and list any potential roadblocks you’ll have to overcome.
How would you go about organizing a kaizen event to solve this issue?
Respond to at least two of your classmates by critiquing their attempts to solving the challenge and providing new approaches. Share an example of inefficiency you’ve directly observed at work, in a company you’re familiar with, or even as a consumer or patron to back up your claims. In the circumstance, what remedies could have enhanced the quality management process?
