Analysis of a comic strip or political cartoon as a writing assignment

For this task, you have two options:
Option 1: Examine a single comic strip or political cartoon.
Choose one political cartoon or comic strip. You should be able to readily search for comic strips or political cartoons on a newspaper’s website, such as The Baltimore Sun, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and so on.
What methods does the comic strip’s creator employ? In the comic strip, how does the creator express his or her point? What does this comic strip or political cartoon teach us about the characters and/or ourselves? What do the colors tell us about this comic or cartoon if they are available? What is the language used, and how can it be deciphered?
And, more crucially, which of the topic lesson’s essential terms can you discuss in your analysis? How do imagery, symbolism, metaphor, and/or irony, for example, help expose the cartoon’s message?
This essay, like all other academic essays in this course, should include a well-defined introduction, a thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion.
What are some of the physical aspects in the cartoon1 – characters, text, colors, and so on – as well as figurative ones like metaphor and symbolism that serve to interpret the cartoon’s message? Before moving on to the next cartoon feature in a new paragraph, it can be beneficial to focus on a single aspect in the cartoon in its own body paragraph (containing the element in the topic sentence and in the thesis) and discuss how it reflects the cartoon’s message.

1A successful study will look at the cartoon’s figurative aspects as well as the obvious literal elements. Use the topic lessons from the course to help you with your analysis.
Option #2: Examine a number of comic strips or political cartoons.
Select two political cartoons or comic strips by the same artist. What methods does the cartoonist employ to create political cartoons? In the political cartoons, how does the author express his or her point? What do these political cartoons teach us about the characters and/or ourselves? What is the language’s role in conveying the creator’s message? Draw conclusions regarding the author’s strategies in the political cartoons and how they apply to our lives using a comparison or contrast style of development. This essay, like all other academic essays in this course, should include a well-defined introduction, a thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion.
Compare and contrast roughly three to five components discovered in the cartoons that serve to illustrate how they pertain to our lives or to a message present in today’s society using the point-by-point or subject-by-subject framework. After you’ve compared and contrasted each text, make sure to clarify what message those elements and cartoons are attempting to convey.
