Description
The assignment:
This discussion continues our practice of analyzing photos essays and finding outside sources. For this discussion, I would like you to begin by looking at the photo essays on this website by Reuters, a worldwide news agency: https://widerimage.reuters.com/
(Links to an external site.)
You should choose one of these photo essays to focus on. You’ll see that many of the recent essays are about the Covid pandemic. If you wish to write about something else, I encourage you go farther back in the archive, where the essays cover a variety of issues from around the world, from every continent.
Once you’ve chosen the photo essay you wish to write about, you should find another news article (or maybe two) that covers the same topic. In your discussion, I would like you to post links to both the article and the photo essay, and then analyze the difference between the article and the photo essays. Some questions to consider (and perhaps answer in 1-2 paragraphs):
What is different about learning about this topic in pictures? In the article?
How do you respond personally to learning about the source from these different sources?
Does one format (visual vs. written) appeal more to your emotions? Does one include more facts, statistics, etc.?
